WCA archers attend national archery tournament

WCA Archery Nationals Team competes in Salt Lake City. Attendees are Coach Maureen Rigo (back, from left), Sophia Caniglia, Gianna Caniglia, Doc Massey, Joe Rigo, Collin Amaral, Coach Brian Earls, Dawson Root (front, from left), Kamerin Earls, Benjamin Hogue, Justen Sheehan and Evan Gustin.

Wickenburg Christian Academy’s archery team joined 1,300 of their closest archery friends and competitors at the NASP Western National tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah, last weekend.  Ten archers in grades fifth - ninth shot in the IBO 3D tournament, and two of those 10 also participated in the NASP bullseye competition.

Kamerin Earls, fifth grade, took 14th in the girls elementary 3D division, and Gianna Caniglia, eighth grade, took 27th for girls middle school 3D; both girls await the completion of the Eastern tournament in Kentucky in May to find out if they will make the final cut for the World Championship in June.

Seven of WCA’s 10 archers either had a new personal best or tied their previous personal best. WCA’s middle school team placed 14th overall.

The WCA Archery team is grateful for the support of local sponsors and donors for their team to be able to attend.  The team raised $6,500 in less than a month to cover travel costs and tournament fees.

The Nationals team is looking for sponsors to help fund their trip to Salt Lake City. They will be holding fundraisers as well to help offset travel costs and tournament fees.
