They have one more opportunity to salvage something out of their 2019-20 season.

Wickenburg High School’s two soccer teams have gone winless so far this year but can cap their frustrating season with victories when they travel to Bullhead City this Friday, Jan. 31, to battle the equally struggling River Valley Dust Devils.

They are scheduled to play in the new Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse, with the boys starting at 1 p.m. and the girls taking the field at 3 p.m.

Coach Juan Jimenez’s boys have lost all seven of their games so far this season, with five of those coming against 3A Northwest Region opponents.

Their latest setbacks came against Northwest Christian, 14-0, and Odyssey Institute, 6-0, last week in region contests and then against Canyon View, 2-1, in a non-region battle.

Coach Jacob Roddy’s girls, meanwhile, have also lost all of their previous matches this season (0-8) and faced a usually strong Yuma Catholic team earlier this week before closing out their season at River Valley, a club that has won only one of its first five region contests and three of its 17 matches throughout the entire season.

The Lady Wranglers lost two region outings this past week (13-0 to Northwest Christian and 10-0 to Odyssey Institute) before dropping an 11-0 match against non-region foe Canyon View.

Northwest Christian captured the girls 3A West Region title with a 6-0 mark. The Lady Crusaders are ranked No. 2 in the conference.
