Wrangling at the next level

Two former Wickenburg High School track and field athletes have been providing significant contributions to their college track club and team recently. Masaada Johnson (above), a freshman attending Pima Community College in Tucson and competing of the Aztec Track Club this winter, qualified for the club teams’ Indoor Nationals in the triple jump with a first-place distance of 37 feet and 4 inches at the Paradise Valley indoor meet last week, which is the second best distance in the nation for that group, according to her former Wickenburg High field coach Ronn Tillapaugh. Meanwhile, Wrangler alumnus Seth Jarus last week finished first in the men’s triple jump for Idaho State University at the Tracy Dragila Open in Pocatello with a distance of 47 feet and 7.25 inches. Coach Tillapaugh reports that he is ranked No. 8 in the country in his category. The college senior also competes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, the high jump, the long jump and the javelin throw.
