In its second and final home meet of the 2019-20 season, Wickenburg High School’s wrestling team will host a handful of other schools in a multi-team event beginning at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 15) in the high school gym.
In a round-robin rotating format, each team will challenge another for team scoring. Four of the visiting schools are expected to be Bourgade Catholic, Mayer, Northwest Christian at Arizona Lutheran.
The Wranglers will be represented by 8 to 10 wrestlers in the 14 weight categories. The top performers so far this season have been Vince Rodriguez at 120 pounds, Daniel Rodriguez at 132, Coy Bowser at 170, Michael Bowie at 182 and Justin Lara at 220. Other probable Wranglers in the meet include Zach Valley at 126 pounds, Levi Bendle at 138, Caleb Dreher at 160 and Domitillo Esquivel at 195.
Meanwhile, Wickenburg High’s boys and girls soccer teams will resume 3A Northwest Region play when they host Paradise Honors this Thursday, Jan. 16. Coach Jacob Roddy’s girls team (0-1 in region and 0-3 for the season) will take the field at 4 p.m., followed by Coach Juan Jimenez’s boys (0-2 in region and 0-3 for the season) at 6 p.m.
Paradise Honors’ girls so far have gone 1-1 in region play and 5-2 for the season, while the Panthers’ boys lost their first three region outings and come to Wickenburg with a 1-6 season mark.
