After a successful 2018 season with the Wrangler golf team not losing any individual matches and finishing in the top 10 3A schools at the State Championship last May; the only returning player was Junior Wyatt Grantham.
After seven matches this season the team refrigerator has been restocked and the cupboard is full with total of 13 players vying for a spot on the starting five. Those players are seniors Joe Moder and Anahi Lopez; juniors Wyatt Grantham, Tanner Brinkley and Seth Doom; sophomores Baillee Ullery, Megan Walters, Jeremiah Wallace and Jett Uldrikson; and freshmen Kaden Conway, Kade Roberts, Tatum Gillis and Logan Jones.
Out of the 13 players, only Wyatt has played a round of competitive golf and is listed as the number one player on the team. Although freshman Kaden Conway is pushing Wyatt for the top spot. Logan Jones, Jett Uldrikson and Seth Doom fill out the starting five.
Right behind the starting five is the foursome of girls, Megan Walters, Ullery, Anahi Oopez and Tatum Gillis all of whom have made dramatic improvement in their first year of golf.
“I am very proud of this young group of athletes and see them as becoming one of the best teams in the future and look forward to being their coach.” says coach Dan Doom.
The team will travel to camp Verde this week for a four-way match against Sedona, Camp Verde, Flagstaff and Wickenburg at the Verde Santa Fe course in Cottonwood.
The following Thursday’s match at Bagdad has been rescheduled for a later date due to a tournament hosted by the mine.
