I had been coming to Wickenburg for 40 years to be in this fantastic example of the Sonoran Desert. After 35 years of teaching biology I decided to retire in Wickenburg. Two years ago I did just that. I bought a beautiful home in Vista Royal. Why Vista Royal? Because of it serenity, openness and great panoramic views. Taxes are on the high side. I pay over $5,300 a year for property taxes. I valued Wickenburg because of its small intimate size and maintenance of the cowboy/western town atmosphere. Recently, I find out that Interstate 11 may be going right through my property. One of the interstate proposals divides my property almost exactly in half. Why a freeway so close to Vista Royal when there are so many miles of open desert immediately to the west of Vista Royal. I have read that the new interstate would add revenue and help local businesses. I don’t see how Wickenburg commerce will be affected much at all when the proposed I-11 will be about 10 miles from the 93/60 intersection anyway. What is another mile or two to the west?
