Eddie was born in Detroit, Mich., on June 1, 1932, to Elizabeth and Thomas Gillespie. Her family moved to Tucson when she was 11 years old. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1950 and went on to the University of Arizona. There she met her husband of nearly 64 years, Jim Girard. They married Aug. 22, 1952. Jim preceded her in death in 2016.
Eddie had a full life; she was an artist, a homemaker, a business owner and a devout Catholic who was involved in her Church’s bible studies. Most recently she studied with St. Anthony’s here in Wickenburg. Above all, Eddie was a wonderful mother to seven children, grandmother to 13 and great-grandmother to 16.
Art projects were a favorite hobby of Eddies. She enjoyed painting and sewing the most.
Eddie was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and her husband Jim Girard. She is survived by her seven children Jim (Rosario) Girard of Show Low, Noel (David) Franklin of Holiday, Fla., Lori Latura (Chick) Everett of Chesterfield, Va., Jeff (Ann) Girard of Fredonia, WI, Dana (Lisa) Girard of Tampa, Fla., Melanie (Wayne) Elliott of Wickenburg, Douglas Girard of Toledo, Ohio, brother in law Edward A. “Bud” Girard, Jr. of Carpinteria, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wickenburg. Due to family health issues affecting attendance, a Family Committal Service will be held at a later date on Jan. 18, 2020.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests any memorial contributions in Eddie’s memory be made to the Freedom Express or the new Wickenburg Senior Center.
