Carol Crowley Thill

April 19, 1928 - April 24, 2019

Carol Crowley Thill, 91, of Wickenburg, earned her angel wings on Wednesday, April 24. A bell surely rang.

Carol was born in Norfolk, Neb., on April 19, 1928, to Lorena Travis Crowley. She grew up in Omaha, Neb., attending Central High School and after WWII married John W. McArthur. They settled in Phoenix, raising three daughters, and Carol established a long career at the Broadway Southwest department store (now Macy’s).

Carol was married a second time to Donald “Don” Thill, whom she affectionately called “Honey Honey”. After retiring from the retail business, Carol and Don moved to Wickenburg in 1985, owning and operating Wickenburg Station until moving to Westpark where they made many dear friends. She lost her precious Don to Alzheimer’s disease in 2007.

Carol cherished the southwest for its desert landscapes, sunsets and warmth, and loved to take family camping and boating trips around Arizona. Her grandkids fondly remember adventures in Nana and Papa’s motor home and on La Barca, their boat. Camping on the beach in Rocky Point, Mexico, and playing the penny slots in Laughlin, Nev., were some of Carol’s favorite weekend trips. Carol loved traveling and being on the water, whether on a cruise to Mexico, around the Caribbean or on a gondola navigating the canals of Venice, Italy.

Carol loved Wickenburg and volunteered for many years in the gift shop at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum and was on the board of the R&R Respite center. She enjoyed the Friends of Music concerts, Gold Rush Days, classic old movies, musicals and dancing. She was an active Nana and doting Great-Nana, always marveling in the miracle of a new baby in the family. Carol had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life, building over nine decades of memories that are surely hers again now that her own battle with Alzheimer’s has mercifully ended. We will miss her with all of our hearts, but are rejoicing that she is free.

Carol was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth; infant son John; husband Don Thill; brother John “Bud” Crowley of Omaha; lifelong friend/sister-in-law Jeanne Goodman, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and her sister Maryanne (Bill) Kay, of Omaha.

Carol is survived by her daughters Julia Hill, of Wickenburg, Susan (Mike) Anastasio and Mary (Bert) Meier, of Phoenix; niece Amy (Gene) Cannon of Corpus Christi; nephew Johnny (Cindy) Crowley, of Omaha; grandchildren Jesse and Rachel Hill, Cassandra Dobrev, Christopher and Kyle Meier, Erin Miloneck, Alex, KC and Victoria Anastasio and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, Carol’s family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
