Mary Jane Finegan of Wickenburg passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Dec. 29, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, our father Leroy Vernon Finegan. She was born on Nov. 25, 1931 to Aurelia and Erastus Wesley Taylor in Peoria, Ariz. She was raised and went to school in Wickenburg where she met the love of her life. Mary and Leroy Finegan were married in 1949. Together they raised six children. She was the beloved grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 17 and great-great-grandmother of one. Mary’s life revolved around her husband and children. She worked for ITT Cannon Electric as a drill press operator for over 10 years. She also had other jobs ranging from waitress, phone operator, highway department to caregiver, and even picked cotton. Our mom loved life. She loved her rose bushes, hummingbirds and, of course, her dogs, especially little Starbaby. She was the best cook, and a day didn’t go by when she didn’t clean her house from top to bottom, and she loved to iron like nobody’s business. Mary loved to crochet and made each of us kids at least one blanket by hand. Her favorite hobby was playing the slot machines with her niece, better known as Aunt Laura. Their secret phrase “let’s go get a hot dog” was their way of getting out to the casino without their husbands knowing. Mary is survived by one brother Joseph Taylor of Glendale; sister Opal Crosser of Sun City; and nieces Laura Taylor Neill and Sherry Taylor Sanders both of Phoenix. She leaves behind her six children, Deborah Lee Prian, David Lee Finegan, Sandra Kay Henderson, Brenda Lynn Salmon, Roy Finegan and Darlene Marie Giguere.
Services will be held at noon, Jan. 11 at David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband at the Wickenburg Cemetery directly after the service. Arrangements are handled by David’s Desert Chapel.
