Fire burns house under investigation

Multiple law enforcement agencies and fire crews are working what appears to be a crime scene on fire this morning on the corner of Jones and Luray roads near Wickenburg. According to Wickenburg Police Department Lt. Amy Sloane, the incident started as a 911 call at around 11 p.m. Sunday, June 30 with a male reporting he had shot someone, and that there was an explosion. WPD responded and secured the scene, including a deceased person in the front yard, but because the home is outside town limits Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office soon took control of the investigation, Sloane said. MCSO, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety worked the investigation throughout the night, including a helicopter search for possible “outstanding people” who may have been associated with the incident, Sloane said. WPD had detained two people on scene, but Sloane had no information on whether they remained in MCSO custody.

Then on Monday morning at about 9 a.m. with the investigation still ongoing, the house being investigated caught fire. Wickenburg Fire Department responded as flames quickly spread throughout the house and began to devour the roof. As multiple surrounding fire departments responded in supporting roles, WFD beat down the flames. The fire was put out by about 10 a.m., and the investigation continues. The Wickenburg Sun has requested information from MCSO’s public information office, and will provide more detail as it becomes available.
