A reminder to parents that it is time for children ages 12 and under to write their letters to Santa Claus. Letters should be deposited in the Santa mailbox in the Post Office lobby no later than Saturday, Dec. 14. Please be sure letters include the information requested on the mailbox lid. Gifts will be brought by Santa to the Congress Christmas party which will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Congress School.

The Fire Department is hard at work getting their float ready for the Wickenburg Parade of Lights to be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Wickenburg. It is traditional that the Congress float is the final one in the parade, and that it carries Santa into Wickenburg. This is a fun event, and well worth a trip to Wickenburg to cheer on the Congress Fire Department!

Computer Whiz of AZ, Shannon Smith, has announced one free computer classes to be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec.12 at the Congress Library.She will be showing those attending  how to share smartphone photos via text, email, or Facebook. These free classes are for Microsoft PC users and are held when there are 3 or more confirmed students signed up by Wednesday noon, the day before the class. Call the library at (928)427-3945 or stop by to sign up for a class in which you are interested.

The Congress Elementary School held its first Honors Assembly of the school year on Nov. 12. Awards were announced for the first trimester of the 2019-20 year.

Congratulations to the following students at Congress Elementary who made the honor roll: in kindergarten, Selah Cheyne, Adailinn Diaz, Haley Gruel, Mia Juan*, Walker Moralez, and Eric Thornton; in first grade, Maci Bromm, Madison Campagna*, Cameron Carpenter*, Crystal Carrasco Lorenzo, Danica Gruel, Charlie Schooley-Rodriguez; in second grade, Kindy Ward; in third grade, Corina Jones, Tristen Sorrells, Hanna Withrow*.

Congratulations also to fourth graders, Fernando Carrasco Lorenzo, MaryGale Farley*, Alex Juan*; to fifth graders Jesse Albertson, Randi Cheyne, Tanner Ervin, Audrey Hankins*, Veronica Juan*, Alesha Morris, Airalyn Ramirez Contreras*, Vanessa Solorzano*, Jarett Warner; to sixth graders Savvy Brill, Sara Gangl*, Hope Gruel, Angela Morris, Kallie Rausch, Kierra Tucker Shayne for making the honor roll.

Also recognized for perfect attendance in the trimester were Brock Bucklew, Jayda Ence, Anderson Farley, Zafiro Fimbres-Quijada, Noble Goode, Zachary McElyea, Mila Olguen, and Valentino White.

Several reminders:

•the Congress Food Pantry is seeking support during the holiday season. Donations can be left at the Congress Community Church, 27420 Santa Fe Road, or at the Congress Fire Hall. Monetary donations can be mailed to Congress Community Church, PO Box 203, Congress, AZ 85332; indicate “ for the Food Pantry” on checks. Donate before Dec. 18 for Christmas meals. For questions or need assistance in making a donation call Food Pantry Director Dale Haller at (928) 427-9537.

•Pick up entry forms for the Holiday Festival of Lights at the Congress Library and the Country Book Nook. Entries must be received by Dec. 9, 2019 and judging will be held on Monday, Dec. 16.

•There will be a Roundtable with Development Services at the Congress Fire Department tomorrow, Dec. 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Department representatives will be speaking on new permitting software and adoption of/and building code changes. Experts in planning, waste water, zoning enforcement, building and plan review will be in attendance and available to answer questions.
