Yarnell-Peeples Valley Chamber of Commerce dba Weaver Mountains Chamber of Commerce announces its fifth annual holiday of lights decorating contest. Residents are invited to decorate homes or businesses with festive lights and décor to win prizes. Each category has three prizes. First prize is $50 in gift certificates; second prize is $30 in gift certificates; third prize is $20 in gift certificates, and best in business will be awarded $50 in gift certificates. Pick up entry forms at Yarnell Community Center, Yarnell Emporium, Yarnell Public Library, Shearer’s Delight Coffee Shop, MountainAire in Peeples Valley, Book Nook in Congress, and Congress Public Library. Deadline for entry is Thursday, Dec. 9. Judging will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16. Call the chamber to learn more at (928) 427-6582.

The chamber will hold its annual member meeting featuring board of directors elections at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Yarnell Regional Community Center. Email or call Trish at (928) 277-6674 for more information.

Yarnell Public Library offers a free computer class from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 on how to create personalized holiday newsletters using Microsoft Word. Classes are for Microsoft PC only, and proceed when there are three or more confirmed students. Sign up at the library by calling by noon on the Monday before the class.

The library will feature the Desert Rose String Quartet who will perform their annual Christmas concert at the library from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. Come listen to Christmas music and sing carols. Cookies and coffee will be served.

The library hosts Readers Delight Book Chat on the second Monday of each month from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Readers are invited to the library to discuss whatever books they are reading and to share their reading experience with others. Model Creek School will conduct a field trip to the Yarnell library for the Christmas concert described above on Dec. 5. A PTSO meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Rosemary Agneesens will give a presentation on the legislative session at a school board meeting set for 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. The school’s annual Santa Shop event is planned from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The school requests donations of copy paper, mouse pads for the computer lab, band aids in all sizes, backpacks, breath mints, cough drops, and the student garden needs soaker hoses, a garden tiller, weed block, tomato cages, trellises, fertilizer, compost and bags of soil. Yarnell Regional Community Center’s Club Yarnell presents a creative night making round robin paintings and holiday cards from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Acrylic paint and canvases will be available for around $6. Bring potluck snacks. The club also plans a diamond painting workshop from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. Diamond painting is an art/craft using crystal points, combining paint-by-numbers and cross stitch techniques. Guests are invited to bring food and drinks to enjoy while painting.
