In keeping with social distancing guidelines, via phone or email, the following Morristown GFWC Officers were elected for 2020-2022: President: Lucy Thompson; Vice President: Glenda Jones; Treasurer: Edie Alger; and Secretary: Constance Mahaney.

On May 4, Superintendent Gregory Sackos posted a letter to the Morristown Elementary Community stating through all the weirdness that they have experienced this year with COVID-19, the teachers have been there to help the students continue to be engaged with learning opportunities. The ability to remain connected to the students during this stressful time is a testament to what it means to be an educator. There have been some challenges and it was definitely an ongoing effort in the development of the different platforms and technology and the online meetings, countless emails with students and parents, hosting Zoom classrooms and many other substitutions that have been embraced by the teachers in different ways.

Monday, May 4, marked the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week and if you haven’t already, please take a moment to contact your child’s teacher to say “Thank You” and to acknowledge the work that the teachers do and have done, especially during these last few months.

Visit the Morristown Elementary School’s website at www.morristowneld75.org for current information on the school’s activities, staff, calendar, monthly newsletter and much more.

The Morristown School Office will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Out-of-district/nonresident students applying and/or returning to Morristown Elementary School for the year 2020-2021 need to fill out and complete a Nonresident Application for Enrollment. The application and accompanying letter can be obtained by going to www.morristowneld75.org or calling the school office at (623) 546-5100.

Kindergarten registrations are being accepted at Morristown Elementary. Call the school office from 7:30 a.m.-noon at (623) 546-5100 to make arrangements to obtain and drop off the necessary paperwork to enroll.

It’s not too late to complete the 2020 Census questionnaire for the Morristown area. The Census not only determines the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, but also informs federal funding for more than 100 programs, including school lunches, education, highway planning construction, support for firefighters/first responders, police officers and families in need in specific areas. The 2020 Census can be completed by each individual household online at 2020census.gov, by phone at (1-844) 330-2020 or by mail.

This section of the newspaper is published the first and third Wednesday of the month. Information about community happenings or events should be sent to Susan Marshall at jbars1@earthlink.net or P.O. Box 459, Morristown, AZ 85342. Please send the Wednesday prior to those dates.
