A tax credit donation is an easy process through the Arizona Tax Credit program. This program allows taxpayers to donate up to $400 ($200 for individuals) to any school in the Wickenburg Unified School District. Your donations help support extra-curricular programs and in turn receive every penny back. In the end, the cost is zero to you, but priceless to the students you’re helping.
To claim the tax credit, taxpayers must contribute to an extra-curricular activity for which the school district charges a fee or requires funds to operate the program. Extracurricular activities are defined as any non-credit educational activities that are offered before, during or after school hours. New this year, schools are also allowed to use the funds for additional items, such as consumable health care supplies, playground equipment, and shade structures. Tax credit donations can also be used for capital items, such as athletic equipment and supplies, as well as computer software.
Over the past three years, the district has used an average of $91,190 tax credit dollars per fiscal year to assist with the operation of extra-curricular activities and clubs. Offering activities outside of the school day is a benefit to students as it encourages social interactions of students who share the same interests. Extracurricular activities also create opportunities for teamwork, builds self-esteem, and teaches time management. The extracurricular activities enrich and enlighten students’ lives, which are beneficial in finding career opportunities and assisting with college admittance.
