The Wickenburg Police Department notified its citizens of newly released sex offender, Wayne Eugene Hardy, 78, via social media late Wednesday afternoon.

Hardy was accused of and convicted of unlawfully administering a dangerous drug to women in Lake Havasu City, reportedly for the purposes of committing sexual abuse.

The notification disclaimer said, “This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather it is our belief that an informed community is a safer community.” It further says Hardy is not currently wanted by any law enforcement agency, it serves as a notification only to inform citizens, in compliance with Arizona state law.

Wayne Eugene Hardy is described as a white male, weighing about 190 pounds and is 5 feet 11 inches tall. He has gray hair and blue eyes. Hardy recently moved into an apartment located at 455 North Tegner Street and he currently is driving a 2018 silver 4 door Chevrolet Cruze.

According to the notice from WPD, Hardy “is considered by the State of Arizona and has been assessed as a Level 2 (or Intermediate) risk to the community by the Wickenburg Police Department.”

Arizona uses a scale of 1-to-3, where a Level 1 sex offender is considered to be a risk and a Level 3 sex offender is considered to be a high general recidivism risk, or someone most likely to reoffend.

WPD asks that if anyone has information regarding current criminal activity involving Hardy to contact Det. Foraker #77 at (928) 684-5411.
