After a very successful seven-year Leadership Academy program that saw more than 120 people participate, a higher-learning program called Wickenburg Leadership Institute was created nine years ago. Ninety-three participants have graduated from the new program, and this year another 17 participants completed the courses.
Sessions were held every Tuesday over an eight week period and included curriculum topics such as: community and economic development, public safety, arts and culture, education, environment, health services, government, and transportation.
A dinner held Nov. 5 at Los Caballeros Golf Club provided each participant a certificate of completion. Guest speakers included Wickenburg Mayor Rui Pereira, Vice Mayor Royce Kardinal, and Jessica Pacheco, president of Arizona-Mexico Commission and vice president for external affairs for Arizona Public Service.
Also, in attendance were sponsors Mackenzie Rodgers, Northwest Division, APS; Patrick McDermott, Senior Account Director, APS; Ashley Meece, Supervisor of Wickenburg Construction Maintenance; Town Manager Vince Lorefice; Economic and Community Development Director Pamela Green; WUSD Communications Director Valarie Shumway; Chamber Board members Brenda Hershkowitz, Tifanie Moore, Rachel Willis, David Stander, and Jessica Solper, and chamber staff.
The following participants completed the 2019 WLI Course:
