Wrangler girls win again in swim action
Still perfect in their first season ever, Wickenburg High School’s girls swimming team won its second meet last week.
After hosting their second home meet of the season Tuesday (Sept. 8), both the boys and girls teams will travel to three meets for the next three weeks. Their next home meet won’t be until Thursday, Oct. 1.
Senior Kellsi Olsen and sophomore Tori Wickham won both of their individual events last week at Bourgade High School in leading the girls to 109 points - ahead of second-place Bourgade (106) and Scottsdale Christian Academy.
Olsen won the 200 individual medley, followed by teammate Jesse Root, won then won the 500 freestyle, followed by teammate Lauren Preskey.
Wickham won the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, while Rachel Preskey won the 100 butterfly and her sister Lauren won the 100 backstroke.
In the boys competition, where Wickenburg (65 points) finished behind Scottsdale Christian (97) and Bourgade (96), three Wranglers won individual events and the 400 freestyle relay team also won.
Winners for Wickenburg include David Nelson in the 100 freestyle, Michael Kircher in the 500 freestyle and Logan White in the 200 freestyle.
Second-place finishes were turned in by Tyler Wickham in the 50 freestyle, White in the 200 individual medley and the team’s medley relay foursome.
Wickenburg’s Nathan Edwards picked up a fifth place in the 100 breaststroke and a sixth in the 100 freestyle.
The three road trips the two Wrangler teams will be making in the next three weeks will be to Phoenix Country Day School next Tuesday (Sept. 15), Bourgade on Thursday, Sept. 17 and then to Phoenix Country Day School again on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
