Bonnie Skochinski, manager of Tina’s Treasures, will address the Wickenburg Area Breast Cancer Support Group at its meeting on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Wickenburg Community Hospital Community Meeting Room.
Tina’s Treasures is a specialty boutique dedicated to providing products and services to cancer survivors and their families. Products include breast prosthetics and bras, wigs, hats and scarves; lymphedema, skin care, nutrition and aromatherapy products, plus cancer awareness jewelry, gifts, and sun protective clothing and much more. The boutique is located at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea inside the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center and is contracted with Medicare and most insurance companies and bills directly for these products.
Skochinski has been with Tina’s Treasures for five years, after relocating from Atlanta, Ga., where she was instrumental in opening one of the first women’s health boutiques in the country. She has worked for many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society in their “Look Good - Feel Better” program, as a peer counselor and is currently a support group facilitator for the “Network of Strength” (formerly Y-Me), and in hospice programs in Chicago and Atlanta. Bonnie is a three-year breast cancer survivor.
She will share her knowledge, experience and present a “show and tell” of the many products available on the market today to make the journey of breast cancer a little easier and comfortable.
The Wickenburg Area breast cancer support group meets the third Saturday of each month, bringing together women of all ages and stages of breast cancer. Support Group facilitator is Nancy Carter, RN, P.A.-C and meetings feature speakers with ample time for sharing of information and providing emotional support. Patients and survivors are encouraged to bring a family member or a friend to the meetings. No reservations or fees are required.
