Local photo restoration available
By Art Pulis, Business Advocate
What can be done with that wonderful, historic black-and-white family photo with the unfortunate creases across it from when it was folded in the family Bible?
Simple, take it to Cutting Edge frame shop on West Wickenburg Way and it will be returned in nearly new condition, suitable for display.
Cutting Edge owner Linda Parker has long recognized the need for photo restoration. She has tried to help people as well as her own family with old photos that have become faded, discolored, creased, or otherwise made unusable. After much research, she discovered an on-line restoration process, tried it out on her photos, and became an authorized dealer.
“One nice thing about the service is that the photo never has to go out of sight of the customer,” said Parker. “The photo is brought to us where it is digitally scanned and sent to the company along with instructions. In a period of a few days the repaired image is returned to us either digitally, on CD, or as a print. I suggest at least one print since the company’s printer is much better than most that are at home, and the print is then ready for framing.”
The cost of the service depends on size but generally starts at about $35. All work is 100 percent guaranteed; therefore the customer takes no risk. When the restored image is returned to the customer, if it does not meet expectations, there is no charge.
There is no copyright issue for professionally taken photos as long as the original photo was taken before 1978.
“In addition to normal restoration, you can do all kinds of things to enhance or change the photo if desired,” said Parker. “They can remove backgrounds, or even do ‘black sheep reduction,’ which is like taking a husband out of a weeding photo if he is no longer in the picture.”
Parker reported that her business of professional custom picture framing has done well during the past two years. She sees the new service as a nice addition to serve her customers.
The Cutting Edge is located at 901 West Wickenburg Way, Suite 2, and can be reached at 684-7114.
