Election results remain unofficial

Election results for Wickenburg mayor and for the remaining seat on the Wickenburg Town Council will not become official until Monday (Nov. 24).

As of earlier this week, contender Kelly Blunt was holding his lead over incumbent Mayor Ron Badowski by a vote of 1378 to 1301. Rui Pereira was leading Darrel Stadel by a vote of 1346 to 1141 for the final seat on the council.

The Maricopa County Elections Department recently informed Town Clerk Donna Riffel that it still had about 100,000 countywide provisional ballots to count.

The elections department has until Nov. 24 to make the results official. Election officials will meet with the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors next week with the results.

On the same day, soon after the Board of Supervisors meet, the Wickenburg Town Council will meet to certify the results of the local elections.

Newly elected officials will be sworn in during the first regular council meeting in December, which will take place Monday, Dec. 1.
