Children’s author at Preserve
Meet Conrad Storad, award-winning children’s author and winner of the 2008 Arizona Book of the Year, Saturday, Sept. 20 at The Nature Conservancy’s Hassayampa River Preserve.
Storad will sign books from 9 to 10 a.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. read from his most recent books including “Desert Night Shift (A Pack Rat Story)” and “Life in the Slow Lane (A Desert Tortoise Tale).” If time allows, he will also read from “Don’t Call Me Pig (A Javelina Story),” which Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano selected in 2005 as part of her program to promote literacy.
Storad currently is director of the Office of Research Publications at Arizona State University and founding editor of “Chain Reaction” magazine, a publication written for younger readers that highlights stories about science, learning, and creative activity.
Storad has entertained thousands of school children with his animated, interactive readings.
“A good non-fiction story should be more than just a bunch of facts,” said Storad. “Non-fiction stories should be fun.”
Admission is free for students and adult fees are $5 per person, $3 for Conservancy members. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to walk the preserve’s trails before or after the presentation. They might just spot a pack rat, tortoise or javelina!
