In keeping with their original idea of providing Wickenburg with a modern, up-to-date drug store, efficient to handle the full line of standard drug store merchandise, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jones have announced the grand opening of their new drug store Saturday (Sept. 3).

The black glass front of the store immediately calls attention to the outside of the building, the window displays, etc.

On the inside, the modern soda fountain invites visitors to try an ice cream soda.

In the rear of the store, the prescription department is prepared to serve customers at any time.

1,148 expected at Wickenburg schools (Thursday, Sept. 1, 1988)

A projected 1,148 students are expected through the doors today - Thursday - when the Wickenburg Unified School District’s three schools resume sessions for 1988-89.

That figure includes 460 students at Wickenburg High School; 387 at Vulture Peak School; and 331 at MacLennan Elementary School.

Superintendent Hank Suverkrup said the enrollment figures, which show a decrease from last year’s opening-day rolls, include subtracting those students who have actually withdrawn from the district during the past year, then adding in those who are presently enrolled.

The Wickenburg school district will operate this year on a $3.8 million maintenance and operation budget that is almost identical to last year’s, Suverkrup said.

RE/MAX of Wickenburg welcomes Victoria “Vicky” Blackburn to its sales staff.

Blackburn, who recently obtained her Arizona Real Estate license, moved to Arizona 10 years ago from Montana.

She recalls that “my only thoughts about the state of Arizona were cactus, hot weather, sand and lizards. I soon learned that the desert is a very peaceful place.”

Vicky was raised on a cattle ranch and wheat farm in northern Montana and has been a “horse person” all her life.
