Wells’ college raises funds for golf team
South Mountain Community College, where 2008 Wickenburg High School graduate Paul Wells Jr. is planning to play golf, is conducting its annual fund-raising campaign for its men’s golf team.
South Mountain’s golf team finished as national runner-up in 2007 after winning the national title in 2004. It has won six of the last eight Region 1 championships from 2001 to 2005 and again in 2007.
The men’s program also was honored as the National Academic Team of the Year in 2003 and again in 2005 and 2006.
Wells was Wickenburg High’s No. 1 golfer the past two years. He led the Wranglers to a second-place finish in the West Region and a third-place finish at state with his third-place individual performance at region and fourth place at the state tournament.
He is attending South Mountain Community College on an academic scholarship, pursuing a pre-engineering degree.
Charitable contributions of $50, $75, $100, $200 or more are being solicited for the program. Checks should be made payable to Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation and designated for the SMCC Golf Program.
Donations can be sent to South Mountain Community College Men’s Golf, 7050 S. 24th St., Phoenix AZ 85042.
