Barbecue stand to open Saturday (Friday, Aug. 5, 1938)

Something new in the way of delicious food will be available here commencing Saturday when the El Recreo Barbecue Stand will be opened by Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Stackhouse, who are well-known Wickenburg residents.

Located near the El Recreo Station, the stand is one of the most attractive, as well as ideal for curb service, in the vicinity.

The large barbecue pit, which has been built in the side of the mountain, has a boiler plate oven and all the conveniences necessary to obtain the delicious flavor of real old-fashioned barbecue.

The three front doors will not only enable them to dispatch quick, efficient curb service but make the stand one of the more attractive of its kind. A long counter and seven stools inside will accommodate those who do not want curb service.

Circle JR Motel now operated by Mills (Friday, Aug. 1, 1958)

William (Bill) and Ruth Mills, natives of Wyoming, scouted motel locations in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and California over a period of years before they settled on Wickenburg.

They had never heard of our town until they visited here on the motel search. Once here, they were convinced. So they purchased the Circle JR Motel on the California Highway from Mr. and Mrs. Win Wolcott, took possession last week, and by Thursday had started the construction of a swimming pool.

The Mills come from Mills, Wyo., a town a little more than a mile from Casper, which was founded by Bill Mills’ father. The father, now deceased, owned and operated the Mills Construction Co.

The son has been operating the Mills Tool Co., manufacturers of oil tools and specialists in rock bits. Before coming here, he sold the firm.
