Plans for a new Holiday Inn Express were approved last week by the Wickenburg Planning and Zoning Advisory Commission.
The commission reviewed the plans a number of weeks ago, but asked the applicant to come back for a second review after certain stipulations had been met.
Assistant Town Planner Steve Boyle told the commission that the stipulations had been met, and the approval to move forward by the commission was a unanimous decision.
The building’s exterior will include rock formations to break up the height, as this will be the town’s only three-story building. It will include awnings and dual pane solar windows to help conserve energy.
The Holiday Inn Express is expected to be built next to The Country Kitchen, and parking was an issue for a few of the commissioners. The applicant, Ace Engineering out of Las Vegas, told the commission that the Holiday Inn Express will consist of 82 rooms and 91 parking spaces.
He said the extra parking spaces should accommodate the larger truck/trailer type vehicles that need more room to park.
Commissioner Phil Richardson commented that the applicant addressed all concerns from the last meeting. There was not a lot of discussion before the vote took place.
