Fortunes to be made at Museum Saturday

The Museum brings back its popular mid-winter Wild West Casino Night this Saturday (Jan. 26)

Doors to Wild West Casino Night open at 6 p.m., Saturday (Jan. 26)

“If only fortunes could actually be made this easily,” said Royce Kardinal, executive director of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, talking about Wild West Casino Night, the Museum’s mid-winter fundraiser to be held this Saturday (Jan. 26). “Winners will walk away with thousands of dollars. Of course, it’s all play money, but it can be turned into some amazing and unusual prizes.”

The prizes Kardinal is referring to range from a brunch for 20 at Kardinal’s own home to a barbecued rib dinner for six prepared by one of Wickenburg’s longtime culinary masters - Bill Rix. For those starting new businesses or wondering how they can make them soar in a flat economy, there are “new identity” packages donated by one of Phoenix’s top graphic designers and a half-day marketing session with the Museum’s Marketing Director Kate McCusker.

Wild West Casino party goers will also find spa packages donated by Carefree Troon Salon in Scottsdale, Carefree Tan Salon in Phoenix, and Los Caballeros Spa; a private back-country Sonoran Desert Tour; the chance to be Museum Director for the day (that is, if you can beat the museum’s staff to the punch!) and a guest appearance on KBSZ-AM 1250 Radio’s “Around the Town” with Pete Peterson - the perfect opportunity to get on a soap box about anything. “We just don’t want to break any FCC rules!” said Peterson.

Entry to Wild West Casino Night is $35 per person for museum members and $45 for non-members. The cost of the ticket includes a “Wild West Wicked Chili Buffet,” two rounds of drinks and a round of casino cash. Libations and casino cash may also be purchased throughout the evening.

Those who plan to attend are encouraged to join in the evening’s fun by wearing their favorite turn-of-the-century western duds, and prizes will be given for the best individual and best couple’s costume. As a special bonus, those who attend can also stroll through the Museum’s two newest exhibits: “The Bola: Arizona’s Tie That Binds” and “Ropers, Wranglers & Rascals: The Real American Cowboy.”

Reservations for Casino Night, a museum fundraiser being held as part of its annual campaign to raise operating dollars, can be made by calling 684-2272, ext. 100.

“Come make a fortune with us,” said Kardinal, “and we’ll both win - you and the ‘house’ which in this case is your Museum.”
