Cowgirl Christmas Concert at Museum Sunday
 |
| Caroline Markham |
It is a tradition that has become the official start of the holiday season in Wickenburg, and one that always takes place on the first Sunday of December. It’s the special Cowgirl Christmas Concert performed by Wickenburg’s own mezzo-soprano Caroline Markham.
The joyous concert of Christmas songs, hymns and carols, especially arranged by Markham for western guitar, will get under way at 4 p.m. this Sunday, (Dec. 2) in the Museum’s Aiken W. Fisher Gallery. The concert is underwritten by Museum patrons Jan Currier and Rusty Gant, Bob and Pat Ernst and Dick and Carol Russell.
This is the seventh year Markham has performed the benefit concert on behalf of the Museum. A professional musician for 30 years, Markham is a member of the American Bach Chorale and will be touring with it to Italy next summer. She also performs regularly in the Phoenix area, and is a past member of New York’s Carnegie Hall Chorale.
Tickets for the benefit concert are $30 for members and $45 for non-members. Reservations may be made, and tickets may be purchased, by calling 684-2272, Ext. 107.
Named “2007 - 2008 Western Museum of the Year,” the Desert Caballeros Western Museum is also Arizona’s Most Western Museum serving more than 52,500 visitors a year by preserving and exhibiting the art and history of the Southwest and desert frontier. The Museum’s extraordinary collection includes western art and American Indian art, along with the Hays’ Spirit of the Cowboy Collection, one of the most complete collections of western artifacts on display in the country. The Museum’s entire lower level is devoted to a re-creation of life in late territorial Wickenburg and to a fascinating permanent exhibit called “Out on the Ranch” which has been especially created with children in mind.
The Museum is located at 21 N. Frontier Street in Wickenburg. For information, call 684-2272, or visit www.westernmuseum.org
