Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a festive holiday season in Wickenburg. Local events and entertainment abound.
This weekend features the Gem & Mineral Society’s show, unique programs at the museum, as well as a toy drive and annual Christmas tree lighting.
Bring the family to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum to see the shows “Bolas - The Tie That Binds,” and “Ropers, Wranglers & Rascals: The Real American Cowboy” over the Thanksgiving weekend. For more information, call 684-2272 or visit www.westernmuseum.org.
Saturday (Nov. 24) there will be a festive toy drive at the Mecca Plaza at 162 E. Wickenburg Way from noon to 4 p.m. Bring a new toy and enjoy a barbecue lunch and live music. Later that day, join Cops Who Care at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Stone Park at 6 p.m.
Visit the Seventh Annual Gem and Mineral Society’s Arts and Crafts Fair Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 24-25) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wickenburg Community Center. There will be drawings for valuable prizes and a chance pick up unique gifts.
Next week, the action heats up with more holiday events.
The Desert Caballeros Western Museum presents “Elves’ Night Out” and “The Great Christmas Cookie Hunt” on Thursday, Nov. 29. This evening of fun and festivities rings in the season with open houses at all three of the Museum’s stores (Ranch Dressing, Just for Kicks, and The Museum Shop) as well as holiday refreshments and music. The Museum will be open with no admission as well, making for a fun, social opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done.
The following evening, Friday, Nov. 30, jazz composer-performer David Benoit and his quartet will present “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at the Webb Center. This world-renown musician will share holiday favorites from Charles Schultz and Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown television specials as well as other holiday favorites. Call the Webb Center Box Office 684-6624 for more information.
Down the road a stretch in Glendale is Arizona Art Alliance’s Fine Art Exhibit and Sale, in which several Wickenburg area artists will be exhibiting, including Nancy Hill, Arija Powell, Daniel Schroeder and Tamara Thomas.
The artists’ reception is Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. and the show corresponds with Glendale’s holiday attraction, “Glendale Glitters.”
More than 100 juried fine artists from arts organizations throughout Arizona will display a variety of work at Glendale Civic Center Annex, 5750 W. Glenn Drive, starting Friday, Nov. 30 and running through Sunday, Dec. 2. For information on this show, visit www.azartalliance.com.
‘Tis the season, and it’s just beginning in Wickenburg!
