Jenny Lynn Stewart will be the solo vocalist at the Friends of Music (FOM) concert this Sunday afternoon (Oct. 21) at the Wickenburg Community Center.
Her one-woman show is called “Richard Rodgers Revisited,” and listeners can look forward to an afternoon of familiar, even nostalgic music from many beloved Broadway shows.
This season each FOM concert will begin at 2 p.m., one hour earlier than in previous years. Patrons have let FOM know that the concerts are a fine finish to a full and pleasant Sunday with church first thing in the morning, time to have a meal at one of Wickenburg’s restaurants, a free concert with an opportunity to meet the artist(s), and then home for the evening.
Stewart’s program lists a wide range of Richard Rodgers’ music. Songs are taken from a list that includes, “I remember Mama,” “South Pacific,” “State Fair,” “The King and I,” “Babes in Arms,” “Oklahoma,” “Pal Joey,” “Carousel,” “The Sound of Music,” and many more. In all, as many as 20 musicals may be represented as individual selections are chosen.
Stewart has been a soloist at Carnegie Hall, appeared in the title roles in “Aida” and “Tosca,” appeared in “Carousel,” and played the Mother Abbess in “The Sound of Music” in a tour covering 43 states, three Canadian provinces, and much of Asia.
Come early to get a good seat - there are no reserved seats - and stay for a few minutes after the concert to meet the artist.
