Plenty to do next weekend: Fly-in, car show, market, rodeo

The 13th Annual Wickenburg Fly-In and Classic Car Show will be at the Wickenburg Municipal Airport - Wellik Field, off Highway 60 west of town, and the annual Horse Thieves’ Market will entice shoppers throughout Wickenburg next weekend, Oct. 12-13. There is rodeo action all weekend as well.

The Fly-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 with an array of aircraft from all over Arizona flying into Wickenburg to participate. Pilots will be available to describe their aircraft throughout the day. The Classy Classic Car Club will display more than 70 classic automobiles for spectators to enjoy. The cars’ owners will be happy to discuss the particulars of each car with visitors. Valley Metro will also have their Wickenburg Connector bus on display with transportation information for interested riders.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by the Lions Club “Lunch Stop” trailer with many more good things to eat. Throughout the morning, people will have an opportunity to view the various aircraft flying into Wickenburg and learn of the services available at the airport.

Wickenburg’s annual Horse Thieves market - A “round-up” of steals - is planned for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13.

Stores throughout Wickenburg will have their wares out on the sidewalk, or special sales indoors, with great bargains for everyone.

This merchant sale began 60 years ago and is designed for residents and visitors to get an early start on holiday shopping. Local merchants offer unique items; many one-of-a-kind gifts, and merchandise with a definite Western distinction. Additionally, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum will have a “Cowboy Garage Sale and Harvest Fest” from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 13).

The public is invited to visit Wickenburg throughout the day, take in local attractions such as the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Hassayampa River Preserve, Vulture Mine, as well as local art galleries, antique shops, and unique dining establishments.

Stay a little longer for the Crossroads Rodeo Company Series Rodeo at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Everett Bowman Arena at the Wickenburg Rodeo Grounds. Rodeo events continue Sunday (Oct. 14) as well. The Crossroads Rodeo Company kicks off its season here this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 6-7). Admission to the rodeo is $7 for adults, 12 and under $3. For ticket information call 970-739-3851.

For more information on all these events contact the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce at 684-5479, events@wickenburgchamber.com or visit the Web sites www.wickenburgchamber.com or www.outwickenburgway.com
