‘Summer Monster Madness' featured at Museum

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum will light up the night beginning Friday, June 8 from 7 to 10 p.m. when it celebrates a new series called “Museum After Dark.”

To kick off the new series, the Museum plans to bring back popular Phoenix rock and blues band Big Nick and the Gila Monsters for an evening it's calling “Summer Monster Madness.” As part of the evening, it will also repeat another Museum favorite - “Death by Chocolate Two” -- dessert tables loaded up with every possible kind of chocolate imaginable including a new chocolate fountain.

Tickets for “Summer Monster Madness” are $8 in advance and $10 at the door; and include a free drink ticket and all the chocolate you can eat. The evening is free for Museum members and volunteers, and reservations are requested.

“Our ‘Museum after Dark' series is new for us, but this will be our third evening of rock and blues with Big Nick and his lounge lizards,” said Royce Kardinal, the Museum's Executive Director. “They are extremely popular, so come do some dancin' and celebrate summer - and chocolate!”

Also open to those who attend this first “Museum After Dark” event will be the Museum's new summer exhibition, “Cool-lection of Big Guns and Little Saddles.” It features both the Museum's stunning permanent collection and a fascinating exhibit of miniature saddles created by Wickenburg's own Carson Thomas.

For more information, or to make reservations for “Summer Monster Madness,” call the Museum at 684-2272.

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum is Arizona's Most Western Museum serving nearly 50,000 visitors a year by preserving and exhibiting the art and history of the Southwest and desert frontier. The Museum's extraordinary collection includes western art and Native American arts, along with the Hays' Spirit of the Cowboy Collection, one of the most complete collections of western artifacts on display in the country. The Museum's entire lower level is devoted to a re-creation of life in Late Territorial Wickenburg and to a permanent exhibit called “Out on the Ranch,” which has been especially created with children in mind. For information, call 684-2272, or visit www.westernmuseum.org.
