The “Pars for Paws” charity golf fundraiser, which took place last week at the Wickenburg Country Club, raised more than $17,000 for the Humane Society of Wickenburg.
More than 20 teams of four played the course, and the proceeds will go toward a new facility for the Humane Society. The team of Jimmy and Dave Jenson, and Leonard and Mike Hershkowitz were the winners of the tournament. First through fourth place winners took home Pro Shop credits as prizes.
Included in the event, organized primarily by Society board member Marianne Swanston, was a silent and live auction. More than 99 various donations were received, including $500 in raffle tickets and a $10,000 golf membership. Both items were donated by Richard Ringwood. The membership was eventually auctioned off for $6,500.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated in the First Annual Pars for Paws benefit,” Swanston said. “Whether as a player, donor, sponsor, or volunteer, there are many charities vying for your time and money, and I deeply appreciate your choosing the Humane Society. We are well on our path to success, and you have been a part of that voyage.”
Swanston said that participation in the event shows that many people in Wickenburg share a caring and compassionate nature.
“And there are never enough people like you,” she said. “Those who will go out of their way -- emotionally, physically and financially -- to bring this dream to fruition. Our greatest supporter has been Richard Ringwood, who so generously donated a golf membership and the player raffle, as well as let me “shop” in his garage for silent auction items. Truly, he has been one of the Humane Society's greatest benefactors and we humbly thank him.”
Swanston called the event a “howling success” and wanted to thank the community on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves.
“For those scared, hungry, sick, broken-hearted, broken-spirited and lonely animals, I thank you for supporting this benefit and taking some of the burden off their furry little shoulders.”
