Humane Society land, transit plan on council agenda

When the Wickenburg Town Council meets next week, it will discuss and possibly take action on a request by the Wickenburg Humane Society to lease a piece of town-owned property near the Industrial Park.

It will also be asked for a letter of approval by Valley Metro to provide a transit system from Wickenburg to the Arrowhead area.

The meeting will take place Monday (March 6) at Town Hall and it will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Beginning July of this year, Valley Metro is expecting to operate two or three round trips daily Monday through Friday, using 16-20 passenger lift-equipped vehicles. These vehicles are similar to the ones used by Maricopa County's Special Transportation Services.

Regular price for service is expected to be $3 each way and major funding for the project is coming from Proposition 400 monies.

Valley Metro representative Anne McCracken said the service is not designed for quick shopping trips, but for medical visits, or visits to friends. However, the service is not age limited and users can go for shopping purposes.

McCracken also said the service was not intended to replace any existing transportation services, but to enhance transportation services for Wickenburg area residents.

Other items on the agenda include:

€A discussion and possible award of bid number B449 for the Municipal Airport runway extension and parallel taxiway project.

€A discussion and possible approval of a declaration that the development of the downtown Streetscape project is a priority and thereby authorizing staff to prepare a Bed, Board, and Booze (BBB) tax ordinance for council consideration and possible adoption following a public hearing scheduled for March 20.

€The council will go into executive sessions in order to consider the town's position and instruct its attorney or attorneys regarding the town's position in the matter of Draeger vs. Town of Wickenburg; and for discussion and/or consultation for legal advice with the town attorney relative to a proposed legal compliance and ethics policy amending the personnel regulations and to immunities and liabilities of public officials.

€A discussion and possible action relative to legal advice on the Draeger vs. Town of Wickenburg matter will follow as well as a discussion and possible action relative to amending the personnel regulations and to immunities and liabilities of public officials.
