The Wickenburg Community Chorus festively welcomed in the holiday season as they presented their “Christmas Remembered” concert to an appreciative audience Dec. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church. The 16-voice all female group, led by Artistic Director Camille Boyle, processed into the sanctuary singing the traditional carol “Joy To The World,” then started their performance with renditions of several gentle contemporary Christmas tunes. Soloists were Janine Cantin and Carol Bennett. Following were selections featuring upbeat rhythms. “Santa, Bring My Baby Back To Me,” originally recorded by Elvis Presley, was an audience favorite. Rounding out the choral performance were “Rejoice,” a bright array of familiar carols, and “Peace, Peace, Peace.”
Interspersed with the group’s selections, the chorus’ talented accompanist Kay Anderson worked her magic with a solo piano medley of popular Yuletide tunes, while chorus member Caroline Markham’s own holiday version of the familiar “Ghost Riders in the Sky,’ this time entitled “Nine Reindeer in the Sky,” became a highlight of the afternoon. Also shared with the audience was chorus member Kaye Huckelberry’s heartfelt remembrance of a Christmas growing up on her family’s Indiana farm. A memorable addition was Boyle’s moving performance of “O Holy Night.”
The chorus resumed rehearsals Monday, Jan. 6 for their spring concert March 8. Practices remain at 4:30 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall. For questions or more information call (928)684-8825.
