A Blue Christmas service is being held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 357 W. Yavapai St.

“Sometimes Christmas can be a painful time,” Pastor Sandy Chilese said. “It might be the first Christmas after the death of a loved one, a difficult divorce or the unexpected loss of a job.

“It may be that this time of year just makes someone feel sad or guilty, because they don’t seem to have that perfect family or lifestyle advertised on TV.”

The service is contemplative with peaceful readings and quiet music interspersed with meditative time to reflect, she said. It will last about an hour and communion with be offered.

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church is hosting a Christmas music “jam session” from 1-4 p.m. Saturday,  Dec. 21 in the parish hall. There is no charge and all types of music and musicians are welcomed.

Bring a favorite instrument if possible and music to share. A keyboard is available. Guests are welcomed to stop by to listen (and maybe cut a rug).
